Anatomy of a turbofan
Every stage, visible.
The cutaway shell shows how air moves through a real engine, front to back.
- 01FanPulls air into the engine. In a low-bypass engine, most of it goes through the core instead of around it.
- 02CompressorRows of blades squeeze the core air to many times its starting pressure.
- 03CombustorFuel mixes with the compressed air and burns continuously.
- 04TurbineHot gas spins the turbine, which drives the compressor and fan on their shafts.
- 05ExhaustHot gas leaves through the nozzle at high speed, producing most of the thrust.
Why MachWorks
Built by someone who works on the real thing.
MachWorks is run by a working aerospace engineer. Every kit is printed to order and comes with step-by-step instructions, so you understand the engine by the time you've built it.

Questions
Does it come assembled?
The turbofan is a kit you build yourself, and there is no pre-built option. It's a challenging build, so plan on taking your time. The SR-71 kit card comes as parts on sprues, or fully assembled for $10 more.
What do I need to build it?
Super glue, which is not included. Build instructions come with every kit. For the turbofan, they are printed in the kit and also emailed to you after you order.
What's different about the motorized version?
It adds a motor so the engine spins on its own. It's powered through a USB-C port at the back of the engine and has a speed control to turn it up or down. You'll wire it yourself, so you should know basic electronics. The instructions walk you through it.
How long until my order ships?
Every kit is printed to order. It ships within 2 business days, then travels by standard shipping.
